About this opportunity

We are currently seeking mentors for disadvantaged youth aged 17 – 25 years and it would only take 2 – 4 hours of your time each week. However, the more hours you can volunteer to help our participants the better!

Our program helps disadvantaged youth overcome the barrier of the mandatory 100 monitored driving hours, so they can achieve their licence.

Our participants don’t have an adult in their life who is able to monitor their driving. They may be living alone, homeless, disconnected from family. They may also have a parent who is physically/mentally disabled or not have access to a vehicle.

All that is required from volunteers is that you have had your open licence for at least one year, you are eligible for a Blue Card and that you have a safe recent driving history.

Our 'Braking the Cycle' program runs from the PCYC Sunshine Coast branch, located at Nambour. PCYC will provide the car and cover the insurance. We will also provide you with mentor training and a certificate of appreciation.

All participants have at least 10 hours driving training – so they do know the basics. As mentors, you are not expected to be professional driving instructors, as you are only taking the place of the parent.

Ideally, you will be able to donate at least 2 hours per week at some time between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 7: 30 p.m. Monday - Thursday, or 8:30 - 3:30 p.m. Friday.

As a volunteer you would also receive free use of the gym at the PCYC Nambour.
