Sunday 1 September is the start of Queensland Child Protection Week (1-7 September 2019), and it is an opportunity for us all in the community to connect and think about how we can work together to keep all children safe and feeling protected.
The aim of Child Protection Week is to raise the profile of all issues connected with child protection, including child abuse prevention, education, service provision and support for children, young people and families.
In 2019 National Child Protection Week will focus on introducing a ‘child development’ communication frame to promote the messages that:
- Kids do well when parents are supported
- To raise thriving kids, parents need support to navigate life’s choppy waters
We can all play a part in protecting children and to improve their future by building stronger communities and safer environments. Volunteering Queensland is helping by supporting community led support programs and volunteering opportunities. Learn what volunteer services are available so you can support others in need.
Some of the opportunities currently available are:
for Protect All Children Today Inc
PACT child witness support volunteers provide factual information to child witnesses and their carers about the Court process to prepare child witnesses for giving evidence.
for North Brisbane Children's Contact Service
This role works to promote positive relationships between child/ren and both parents or significant others in the children’s lives by reducing the incident of children experiencing family and domestic violence, and being isolated from other family members.
for Volunteering Queensland
This program provides training to ensure volunteers are supported in their endeavours to help students to grow and develop through reading. Ready Reading volunteers will be connected to schools in their local area to participate in their reading programs.
